How to Reroll Item Stats in Diablo 4

There have been numerous occasions in Diablo 4 where I stumble upon a remarkable piece of gear that I would love to incorporate into my build, but the stats just don’t align with my needs. Luckily, there is a way to reroll item stats in the hopes of transforming them into a more useful addition.

Whether acquired from dungeons, events, world bosses, or any other source, gear can often possess incredible aspects, stats, or unique effects. However, sometimes the gear may have beneficial aspects but lack in the stats department, or vice versa. Instead of endlessly farming for the perfect drop, you have the option to modify and enhance the gear you already have. If you’re looking to reroll your items in Diablo 4, here’s what you need to know.

How to Reroll Item Stats in Diablo 4

Similar to blacksmiths or other merchants, most towns in Diablo 4 will have an occultist. These merchants specialize in aspects, unique and powerful upgrades typically obtained through completing dungeons, which add passive benefits to weapons or armor. At the occultist, you will find the option to reroll your item’s stats.

To do this, simply navigate to the right-most option on the merchant tab labeled ‘Enchant Item.’ Place your desired item in the designated slot, and you will be prompted to alter one of the item’s stats. Once you’ve selected the stat you want to change, you can proceed. Keep in mind that this process is not free, as rare items will require veiled crystals, and legendary items will require fiend roses, forgotten souls, and gold.

After choosing the skill to reroll, you will be presented with three options. If you’re not satisfied with the alternatives, you can always choose not to change your item’s stat, although there will be no refund. If one of the alternate stats appears beneficial, simply click on the corresponding option and apply your new affix.

Can You Change Gear Stats in Diablo 4?

Yes, you can change your gear’s stats in Diablo 4, although the process is not straightforward. If you come across a piece of gear that you’d like to keep but want to alter to better align with your class or specific build, you can take that gear to a town occultist.

With the help of an occultist, you can change your gear’s stats. However, it’s important to note that you don’t have much control over the replacement stats. Instead, you select the stat you want to change from your item’s current stats, and then you’ll be presented with three random options that are roughly equivalent to the stat you’re changing.

This process relies on luck. Thankfully, there’s no limit to the number of times you can attempt to change your gear’s stats. However, it’s advisable to set a budget, as rerolling your gear’s stats multiple times can quickly become costly.

Where Can You Reroll Gear in Diablo 4?

The occultist is the only merchant that can reroll gear in Diablo 4. While most merchants buy and sell specific gear, the occultist focuses on extracting and imprinting aspects, as well as enchanting your gear. Although I didn’t frequent this merchant during the early stages of my journey in Diablo 4, I found the occultist to be one of the most important merchants in the late game.

The occultist can be identified on the town map by a triangle-shaped icon with circles around each corner of the triangle. Although not every town in Sanctuary has an occultist, the majority of major cities in Diablo 4 will have one available to assist you in changing your gear.
