Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the Kakul-Saydon Gate 3 raid in Legion. In this guide, we will walk you through the key mechanics and strategies to overcome this challenging raid. Whether you’re a seasoned raider or a newcomer, our expert tips will help you navigate the encounter with finesse. So grab your gear and let’s dive in!

The Concept and Mechanics

The fight at Kakul-Saydon Gate 3 revolves around two major mechanics and four exhilarating Mario-style minigames. Each player in the group will have the opportunity to participate in one of these exciting minigames, while also tackling the Showtime mechanic at 90 HP bars and the Bingo Board at 0 HP bars. It’s a race against the clock, as you have a total of 12 minutes for the entire fight (excluding the separate timer for Bingo).

Recommended Setup

To optimize your success in this raid, it is advisable to have a support class such as Bard or Paladin in your setup. As for the remaining three players, any class will suffice. However, mobile and ranged classes tend to have a slight advantage in maintaining high uptime on the boss. Don’t fret about strict DPS checks; completing the raid with an item level of 1475 is entirely feasible.

Equipments and Card Sets

To perform at your best inside the raid, equip yourself with four level 3 engravings, level 3 and 4 tripods, and a mix of level 6 and 7 gems. As for card sets, the Lostwind Cliff set is a recommended choice if your class benefits from crit rate. Alternatively, opt for sets that bring value to your class, such as HP bonuses. It’s worth noting that Kakul does not sustain extra damage from Light sources, rendering the Light of Salvation set ineffective in this encounter.

Essential Consumables

Ensure you bring plenty of Elemental HP Potions to sustain yourself throughout the fight. Additionally, based on what you feel is lacking, you can equip a Time Stop Potion, Wind Robe, Dark Grenade, Adrophine Potion, or Stimulant. These consumables offer various benefits that can aid you in different situations during the raid.

Coordinated Gameplay

Unlike traditional positioning requirements, the key to success lies in determining which player will tackle each specific Mario minigame. As with all Mario games, Kakul triggers the mechanic by casting a Pentagram-shaped area. This serves as the signal for the chosen player to transform into a clown and enter the pink portal, teleporting them to the minigame. Remember, the markings on the ground won’t harm you, but the pink portal area in the center will.

Before stepping into the portal, consider these two important points:

  • Transforming into a clown grants you the ability to throw a bomb at either the flame turret or the boss, providing a damage boost to your group members while you’re away.
  • The skill on the E key leaves a gift on the ground, which can be destroyed to decrease the gauge of the closest players. Utilize this skill when entering the portal as it can be very advantageous in certain situations.

Mario Minigames: Team Effort

Once a player enters a Mario minigame, another player outside will receive a symbol on top of their head, signaling the color (or symbol, if color-blind) that needs to be called out. The objective of the Mario game is to destroy three balls of the correct color, thereby lifting the curse from the player outside. Failure to eliminate the required number of balls within the allotted time will result in the player with the curse debuff perishing. Furthermore, if you fail to exit the Mario game in time, you will meet the same fate.

Coordinated Mechanics

While a player is engaged in a Mario game, the remaining three players have to handle their share of mechanics within the room. One player will be imprisoned and unable to move, while a slow-moving blade approaches them. The remaining two players must make their way to the other side of the room, dodging various obstacles in their path, and deplete an easy stagger bar on Kakul. The obstacles you encounter depend on the Mario game you are currently playing:

  • Mario 1: Watch out for spinning blades that can instantly eliminate you. The goal is to stagger Kakul.
  • Mario 2: Be cautious of hooks that can drag you to the edge of the room. However, they won’t cause instant death. The objective remains the same: staggering Kakul.
  • Mario 3: Face hooks and blades as obstacles. Your ultimate aim is to stagger Kakul.
  • Mario 4: Prepare for hooks and blades again. However, in this minigame, you must complete two typing tests, similar to Vykas G3—one for each player—before staggering Kakul.

For players who are not engaged in the Mario 4 minigame, you will find two levers adjacent to Kakul. One is positioned below, and the other above him. If you approach either of the levers, you will be prompted to complete a typing test. Interact with the respective lever assigned to you. The player assigned to the top lever should avoid the bottom lever, as they will also receive the same typing test. This prevents unnecessary time consumption.

Practice Makes Perfect

Feel free to hone your Mario game skills by visiting Trixion and talking to Beatrice. You can practice all four versions of the minigames there, preparing yourself for the challenges that await you in Kakul-Saydon Gate 3.

Showtime Mechanic: Explosive Chaos

When Kakul reaches 90 HP bars, he moves to the center of the room and initiates a series of chaotic and explosive events. To best navigate this mechanic, gather your group at the South point of the map and start moving together in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, based on the direction Kakul fires the first machine gun. For reference, in this example, we moved counterclockwise.

An effective strategy to tackle this mechanic is employing the Sidereal skill Azena and Inanna after reaching the North point and transitioning towards the room’s interior. These skills negate most of the incoming damage, cleanse your clown gauge, and provide healing support.

Destroying the two large bombs during Showtime is crucial. Aim the yellow cone telegraph towards the bombs to obliterate them. The first bomb appears randomly, and the cone telegraph also randomly targets a player. Stay vigilant during this phase, as missing the bomb or being targeted by the cone telegraph can lead to disastrous consequences. The second bomb spawns on the opposite side of the first bomb, making it relatively easier to spot.

Once the bombs are dealt with, regroup at your chosen location and start moving as a cohesive unit—either clockwise or counterclockwise. This final segment of the Showtime mechanic involves outrunning red telegraphs in the shape of targets and yellow orbs that pursue you. Stacking together provides a clearer path to run, but always pay attention to everyone’s movement speed to ensure nobody gets left behind and accidentally steps into the red telegraphs, resulting in their demise.

Dealing with Showtime patterns requires practice and nimble fingers. However, rest assured that the mechanics can be handled even during your initial attempts, as long as you keep running. Watch a complete example of the Showtime mechanic in action:

Challenging Mario Minigames Ahead

At 125 HP bars, brace yourself for the third Mario minigame. The introductory mechanics leading up to it are similar to the other minigames, but the actual gameplay is distinct. Be prepared for a tougher challenge in this round.

When Kakul’s HP drops to 52 bars, the fourth Mario minigame commences. The setup remains consistent with the other minigames, but the gameplay itself is lengthier and more demanding.

Last Phase: The Bingo Board

As Kakul’s health reaches a mere sliver, the room converts into a checkerboard, marking the beginning of the last phase. Your objective here is to create enough Bingo lines to defeat Kakul. Generating six bingo lines will deplete his HP, but regular skill usage can expedite the process. Due to the generous 14-hour timer, there’s no need to rush!

The room begins with two white skull symbols on the ground, acting as your starting point for the bingo lines. The starting locations are randomized for each attempt. A bingo line refers to an edge-to-edge alignment of skulls, either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Creating a line of five white skulls manifests a bingo line, dealing damage equivalent to 10 HP bars. Accomplishing this requires the strategic placement of bombs, which a random player receives at specific intervals.

To create a bingo line, the targeted player carries the bomb to their desired cubicle and leaves it there to explode, resulting in five white skulls forming a cross shape. Keep in mind that every third bomb should always generate a bingo line to guarantee success. Failure to do so will lead to a raid wipe. Creating additional bingo lines is possible at other times, as long as the third, sixth, and ninth spawned bombs form bingo lines.

Be cautious of the skull tiles, as they quickly fill your clown gauge. Stepping on them should be avoided whenever possible.

Throughout the bingo mechanic, Kakul will still execute some mechanics from previous gates, such as yellow spew and a version of the laser from Gate 1. However, there are a few unique mechanics to contend with, including a fear ability marked by purple mist towards Kakul’s front.

Another noteworthy mechanic during the bingo stage is the appearance of hammers. These hammers materialize at the edge of one of the rows, accompanied by an arrow pattern indicating their trajectory. Steer clear of the affected row to avoid instant death.

From 180 HP bars down to 0, you will encounter a variety of additional mechanics. It is crucial to minimize clown gauge accumulation unless it is your turn to enter a Mario game. Here are some examples of potential mechanics you may face:

  • Immovable statues: These statues persist until destroyed. When they emit a white glow, any player inside their vicinity gains clown gauge. Approach them cautiously. However, when the statues lack the glow, they pose no threat and can be approached safely. Clear them, especially before a Mario phase, to prevent unnecessary damage.

  • Missing HP Buff: In the event of inadequate damage output over a specific period, party members may receive a 15-second debuff. When the debuff expires, your missing HP swaps with your current HP. Ideally, you want minimal HP when the buff expires. Deliberately positioning yourself on the edge of the room within the moving flame animation is an effective method to reduce HP.

  • Rainbow Stripes: Kakul initiates a series of rainbow-colored stripes, appearing either twice in a row or four times consecutively. Keep an eye out for free spaces between the stripes.

  • Fire Breath: Kakul breathes fire, resulting in flamethrowers and fire rings appearing temporarily. While not overly harmful, they increase your clown gauge and apply a ticking debuff.

  • Blue Telegraphs: Kakul disappears momentarily, and blue telegraphs start emerging on the ground. It occurs three times consecutively during this mechanic, with the final occurrence featuring a large yellow telegraph with small safe areas amid the pizza-like slices. Avoid these telegraphs to maintain your safety.

  • Clones and Lasers: Kakul splits into two clones, and each targets a player with a cross-shaped telegraph that tracks them. Stand still until the telegraph lines turn dark orange, then either walk or dash away to evade the attack.

  • Charging Laser: Kakul charges a spinning laser telegraph that spans 180 degrees. The laser spins towards the direction of his higher shoulder, as he leans on the weapon side while charging. While utilizing skills that offer immunity can help you avoid the stun effect, it is relatively simple to predict the laser’s direction visually and move away accordingly.

Phew! That covers the multitude of mechanics you’ll encounter in Kakul-Saydon Gate 3. With practice and coordination, you’ll conquer this challenging raid. Good luck, and may victory be yours!
