History

On September 21, 2012, Vici Gaming was established with the assistance of “Fengdidi”. The team’s founder, previously known as PanPan, handpicked talented players who were highly ranked on the Chinese DotA ladder at the time. While most of the players had no prior professional experience, Cty had shown promise by winning a 1v1 tournament organized by 2009, defeating renowned players like Ferrari_430, Sylar, and Hao shortly before joining Vici Gaming. Their exceptional skills allowed them to qualify for the 2012 G-League Season 2 by defeating Noah’s Ark in the preliminaries.

In January 2013, Vici Gaming signed Greedy, captained by the legendary YaphetS, as their online/backup squad. They initially focused on Dota but soon expanded to Dota 2. In March, Vici Gaming made roster adjustments, bringing in ZSMJ and Sgua_Li from previous projects. The team continued to refine their lineup, replacing sydm with ZSMJ as the carry player and transitioning Cty to the mid role.

After a disappointing finish in the qualifiers for The International 2013 and DSL, Vici Gaming underwent changes in their management. PandaPanPan and Nada departed from the team, and mikasa joined as a replacement. In October, Sylar joined as the new carry player, although his starting lineup debut was delayed due to contract negotiations. Vici Gaming’s journey took them to Poland for the Raidcall EMS Fall LAN finals, where they secured first place. However, their success was short-lived as a lack of direction and poor player performances caused them to fall from the top ranks in Dota 2.

In April 2014, former EHOME player QQQ joined Vici Gaming as a coach. Later that year, they participated in The International 2014, finishing first in the group stage and second overall after losing to NewBee in the finals. In August, rOtK announced his retirement, and Sylar left the team, making room for Black^ and iceiceice. With their new lineup, Vici Gaming emerged as the best Chinese team, winning The Summit 2 in Los Angeles.

The year 2015 proved to be a strong season for VG. They reached the finals of Dota 2 Asian Championships but suffered a shocking defeat against Evil Geniuses. In March, Hao joined Vici Gaming, replacing Black^ in the Carry position. On March 15, the team announced the creation of a youth squad, VG.P. Vici Gaming secured victories in Starladder XII and participated in The International 2015, finishing fourth. They continued to make roster changes, with Hao leaving the team and VG acquiring BurNIng and YJ. The team’s notable achievements that year included a second-place finish in the Nanyang Championships and a fifth-place finish at Valve’s first-ever Major in Frankfurt, Germany.

Through their history, Vici Gaming has exhibited exceptional expertise in the competitive Dota scene. They have proven their authority as one of the top Chinese teams, earning the trust of fans and enthusiasts worldwide. With a focus on user experience and a commitment to excellence, Vici Gaming has become an influential force in the world of esports.
