The Path of Champions

The Path of Champions is a captivating single player campaign game mode (PvE) within Legends of Runeterra. It can be found under “Labs” and becomes available to new players after completing the tutorial. In this mode, players guide their chosen champions on epic adventures, progressively upgrading their powers and decks with additional cards. Each adventure presents a series of encounters to overcome, with players starting with 30 nexus health.

To kickstart their journey, players begin with an introductory adventure featuring Jinx, followed by gaining access to the full Path of Champions experience and the World Map. The World Map acts as the central hub, offering players the ability to select their champion, explore different regions of Runeterra, and embark on World Adventures or Champion Campaigns.

What’s New in 2.0?

With the release of The Path of Champions 2.0, all progression from the previous version has been reset for the last time. While some adventures have been temporarily retired, there are plans to bring them back in the future. Additionally, Riot is continually exploring monetization options for this game mode. For further details, refer to the Patch 3.8.0 Notes.

In The Path of Champions 2.0, there are currently 12 champions available, with more to be added in future updates. Each champion can be unlocked using 30 Champion Fragments. Players can earn these fragments through quests, Champion Campaigns, and World Adventures. Acquiring Champion Fragments also allows players to increase their star rating and unlock new powers for their champions.

World Adventures and Champion Campaigns

Players can choose from two modes when playing The Path of Champions: World Adventures and Champion Campaigns.

World Adventures

The Path of Champions World Adventure

There are ten World Adventures available in The Path of Champions 2.0, with each adventure representing a different region. Every adventure has specific requirements that need to be fulfilled to complete them.

To unlock higher difficulty World Adventures, players must first complete at least one adventure from the previous tier. For example, to unlock 1.5-Star World Adventures, players must complete all requirements in a 1-Star World Adventure.

To successfully complete a World Adventure, players need to win using champions that meet the requirements specified in the Completion section. It’s crucial to choose champions wisely, as each champion can only fulfill one slot at a time, even if the requirements overlap. If a champion fulfills the requirements for an empty regional slot, it will count towards that slot first.

Each World Adventure has unique completion requirements, with some featuring one slot, others two slots, and even three slots. Future World Adventures may introduce additional slots.

While players can use any champion for a World Adventure, their progress will only contribute to completion if they win with a champion that fulfills one of the slots. This means players may need to beat some World Adventures multiple times with different champions to successfully complete them.

Regardless of the outcome, attempting a World Adventure with any champion will always earn CXP (Champion XP) based on the progress made. Completing an adventure will reward players with a bundle of valuable items, including Legend Points, Cosmic Vaults, Relics, and Champion Fragments.

Players who win an adventure will receive a rank based on their remaining health, along with a commemorative badge to showcase their achievement for future runs and comparisons.

Champion Campaigns

The Path of Champions Champion Campaign

The Path of Champions 2.0 features 24 Champion Campaign Adventures, with two unique campaigns available for each champion.

Champion Campaigns differ from World Adventures as they offer champion-specific rewards. Players can only have one adventure of any kind in progress at a time, and they must finish their current run before starting another.

Unlocking a champion automatically unlocks their corresponding Champion Campaign. Each Champion Campaign has multiple Adventures of varying difficulties and unlock requirements. Each Adventure clearly outlines the conditions players must fulfill to unlock it.

Similar to World Adventures, any attempt at a Campaign Adventure earns Champion XP based on the progress made. Completing a Campaign Adventure grants players various rewards, including Legend Points, Cosmic Vaults, Campaign-Exclusive Relics, and Champion Fragments.

Like World Adventures, players receive a rank based on their remaining health and a badge to commemorate their achievement when they win a Campaign Adventure.

Legend Level

Legend Level

Your Legend Level represents your overall progression on The Path of Champions. Gaining Legend Points is the key to leveling up, which occurs the first time you complete an adventure and whenever you complete a quest. Legend Points are earned by participating in World Adventures, Champion Campaigns, Chapter Quests, Daily Quests, and Weekly Quests.

With each level gained, champions receive buffs based on the level reached. More levels will be added in future updates.

Champion Level and Champion Stars

Champion Levels and Champion Stars

Champions have two methods of progression: levels and stars. Detailed information on these can be found in each character’s respective guide.

  • Champion Levels: Champions earn Champion XP (CXP) based on the difficulty level of the adventure. As champions level up, they gain permanent buffs such as deck upgrades, items, Relic slots, and more. The maximum level currently is 30, with plans for expansion in the future.

  • Champion Stars: Champion Fragments are used to grant stars to champions, enabling them to unlock powerful game-changing abilities or enhance their existing ones.

Champion Fragments

Champion Fragments are unique resources tied to each champion. They serve several purposes, including:

  • Unlocking champions (excluding Jinx): 30 Fragments required.
  • Increasing a champion’s Stars:
    • 10 Fragments for 1 Star
    • 20 Fragments for 2 Stars
    • 40 Fragments for 3 Stars

Cosmic Vaults contain Champion Fragments and can be obtained by completing Daily and Weekly Quests, raising your Legend Level, finishing Champion Campaign Adventures and World Adventures, and completing Chapter Quests (Jinx, Lux, or Yasuo Fragments are guaranteed).

Relics are powerful items that champions can equip, providing enhanced stats and passive abilities. The rarity of a relic determines its strength.

The Relics feature unlocks at Legend Level 5. Relics can be unlocked individually or discovered within reliquaries (relic chests) obtained by playing World or Campaign adventures and completing quests. Several types of reliquaries can be earned, including Bronze Reliquaries (guaranteed Common relic with a chance of upgrading to a Rare relic) and Silver Reliquaries (guaranteed Rare relic).

Completing the second adventure of each champion’s Campaign rewards players with an exclusive relic unique to that champion, unobtainable elsewhere.

Players can possess up to three copies of the same relic. Any extra copies beyond the third will be converted into Green Shards based on the relic’s rarity, similar to having extra copies of cards.

Additional relics and reliquaries will be added as The Path of Champions continues to expand.

Champions typically have three relic slots. The first slot becomes available as soon as a champion is unlocked, provided the player has reached at least Legend Level 5. The remaining two slots unlock at Champion Levels 13 and 25.

Initially, each slot allows only Common relics. However, as champions level up, the slots evolve into Rare relic slots, capable of accommodating both Common and Rare relics. The slot upgrades occur at champion levels 8, 19, and 25.

Common and rare relics can be equipped to multiple champions simultaneously, even with only one copy.
