Against the Storm Building Guide

In this guide, we’ll provide you with all the essential information you need to know about building in the game Against the Storm. We’ll cover how buildings work, how to unlock more buildings, and which buildings you should prioritize.

How Buildings Work in Against The Storm

Buildings in Against the Storm have a unique dynamic compared to other city-builder games. The game’s roguelite nature means that there isn’t a single “best” strategy for success. Instead, flexibility and adaptability are key to thriving in this game.

At the start of each game, you’ll have a set of basic buildings, such as Shelters and the Woodcutters’ Camp. As you progress and earn Reputation points by completing tasks for the Queen or sending loot to the Citadel, you’ll unlock additional buildings.

However, it’s important to note that there’s no guarantee that you’ll get the same building every time. For example, you might not come across the Small Farm in your Reputation rewards, which means you’ll have to rely on foraging or trading for food instead. Combine this randomness with the varying maps, and it becomes clear that adaptability is essential for consistent success.

How to Unlock More Buildings in Against the Storm

Aside from earning Reputation points, you can also expand your pool of available buildings by purchasing rewards from the Smoldering City. These buildings often provide powerful bonuses and are worth investing in.

What Against the Storm Building Should You Build First?

The first building you should focus on is the Woodcutters’ Camp. This will enable you to start wood production, which is crucial for keeping the Hearth lit and providing materials for further construction.

After placing the Woodcutters’ Camp, it’s recommended to build around four Shelters. Providing housing for your Villagers will help maintain their Resolve in the early game. Make sure to keep an eye on the population count in the top left of the screen to ensure everyone has a home.

The next building to prioritize depends on the landscape. Consider building a Crude Workstation to produce Planks slowly, as they will be needed for more advanced structures. Additionally, securing a source of food through either Farming or Foraging is vital. Once you’ve covered these basics, your primary goal is to build up Resolve and achieve victory.
