Outlaw Rogue DPS Gear and Best in Slot – Dragonflight 10.1.5

With the launch of Season 2, Aberrus has opened its gates once again, allowing you to obtain new gear from the raid. Mythic+ dungeons and the new PvP season have also begun, marking a soft-reset for your gear acquired during the first Season of Dragonflight.

In Season 2, the Valor Upgrade system has been replaced with a new upgrade system that offers more flexibility. You can obtain item upgrades from a wider variety of content. Flightstones and Shadowflame Crests are the new currencies introduced in this reworked system, and they can be obtained from almost all forms of content in the game. These currencies allow you to upgrade most of the items you acquire, up to a certain limit. Heroic raid gear and gear from Mythic+ dungeons are upgradable all the way to item level 441, which is equivalent to entry-level Mythic raid gear. Crafted gear can be upgraded up to item level 447, and only the final bosses of Aberrus drop slightly better loot.

The great advantage of this new system is that you can engage with any content you prefer and still have meaningful gear progression throughout the patch.

For more information on this new gear upgrade system, we recommend visiting our dedicated page.

The Great Vault is back as well, providing you with a selection of items each week based on the type of content you engage with.

Given the multitude of gearing options available to players, it is impossible to cover all individual recommendations in a single guide. Therefore, we highly recommend using Raidbots to simulate your own character. This website provides precise and personalized gear recommendations based on your exact talents, gear, and other layers of gearing in the game. Learning to use this tool is essential for maximizing your potential, as it is the only reliable way to determine the best gear, enchantments, gems, and trinkets for your character.

The Droptimizer feature on Raidbots helps you identify dungeons and raid bosses that offer the highest DPS upgrades for you. It simulates potential upgrades and ranks the bosses/dungeons based on how much DPS improvement you can expect from each item they drop. You can find a guide for using this feature in the link below.

The following are some items you should prioritize upgrading as high as possible early in the season:

  • Bile-Stained Crawg Tusks (your Best in Slot weapon)
  • Primal Molten Longsword or Claws of the Blazing Behemoth (alternative weapons)
  • Dragonfire Bomb Dispenser, Neltharion’s Call to Suffering, or Beacon to the Beyond (powerful trinkets)
  • Flaring Cowl or Toxic Thorn Footwraps (Embellished items)

However, please note that these are not the only items worth upgrading. They simply offer the highest DPS gains early in the tier when you are limited by the weekly Crests cap.

Aberrus offers a choice of 5 tier-set items that grant powerful bonuses when you wear 2 or 4 pieces of the set. If given a choice, prioritize the Shoulder, Chest, Gloves, and Leg slots for these set bonuses. Completing the Helmet bonus is still preferable to other gearing choices.

In Patch 10.0.7, Primordial Gemstones were introduced, which can be socketed into the Onyx Annulet, a new ring obtained after completing quests in The Forbidden Reach. However, the Onyx Annulet was significantly nerfed in Patch 10.1.5 and is no longer a viable choice unless your alternative rings are around 410-420 item level. We recommend simulating your character to determine if the ring is still useful for you or if it should be replaced with alternative gear choices. For more information on the Onyx Annulet and Primordial Gemstones, please refer to our dedicated guide.

The gems themselves provide various procs or bonuses, with some remaining Best in Slot throughout Season 2. Our Enchants and Gem page compiles a list of the most useful ones.

Professions can also be a great way to gear up with optimal secondary stats. The reworked crafting system in Dragonflight allows for specific secondary stat combinations when adding special items to the crafting process. Exploring the new professions will help you gear up as you progress through the expansion, and you’ll even be able to craft Mythic Raid item-level pieces later on. Check out our Dragonflight Profession guide for more information.

You can enhance up to two of your crafted items with Embellishments. This concept is similar to Unique-Equipped, meaning you can only wear two items with the Embellished status. Some crafted items are considered Embellished and have powerful procs or beneficial effects by default. You can also add Embellishments from various professions to any crafted item, either during creation or at a later stage.

Since there is significant competition for Embellishments, you’ll need to select the two most powerful ones for your overall DPS output. The top choices are Toxic Thorn Footwraps and any crafted item with a Toxified Armor Patch.

Tiered Medallion Settings can be used to add sockets to your necklace. Depending on the rank of the Medallion, you can add up to 3 sockets to any necklace you own.

You can also add sockets to Helmets, Belts, Bracers, Necks, and Rings with Tokens of Merit, which you receive if you don’t select any choices from your Great Vault. With 6 tokens, you can trade them in for an item that allows you to add a socket to any gear piece acquired in Season 2.

The Dawn of the Infinite Megadungeon in Patch 10.1.5 introduces many new items with unique effects. These items have a base item level of 437 and can be upgraded to 441. However, they are not worth considering for a Best in Slot setup unless future updates buff some of these items. We will update this guide section if any tuning or new findings occur.

The choice of gems and enchants heavily depends on your current stat priority. As mentioned before, your priority may change as you acquire new gear. We highly recommend simulating your character to determine the best use of your newly acquired socket. In general, prioritize Critical Strike and Mastery on as many pieces of gear as possible, including consumables.
